This lighthouse reports the South east entrance of the  Bonifacio channel. Is located on a 40 m high promontory,  north of the area that dominates the Costa Smeralda.  All around, the coast is rocky and steep but well marked, the construction of the lighthouse began in 1858 and was completed in 1861.
The building is made of a cylindrical tower that rises over a white two floors building used as accommodations for the “ faristi” the  lighthouse keepers. The 18 m high tower is topped by a polygonal lantern glass with optical lens , originally carrying up to 17 meters  light, which covers the maritime sector from Punta Sardegna  to Capo Figari. It worked  with an oil lamp provided of a wick. In 1912 it was replaced by an incandescent oil vapor light. In 1932 the old equipment was replaced by an optical rotary 750mm diameter focal length, the characteristics of the light changed to 3 groups of white flashes, covering a range of 31.5 meters. In 1938, the source of oil vapor light was replaced with electric incandescent lamp 1500W/80V, powered by three autonomous 5kw generators.
Nowadays it  works with a rotating 375 mm of focal length, it issues a group of 3 white flashes every 15 seconds, the light source is given by a halogen electrical lamp source 1000W/110V.
